Roger and Dana Ward’s military training instilled discipline, leadership, and teamwork—qualities that laid the groundwork for their future moving business success.
Kansas City Calling
After Roger’s Army enlistment ended, the couple relocated to Kansas City. A prayerful decision led them to purchase Marathon Moving & Delivery, investing their life savings in a brand-new venture.
Building Infrastructure
Immediately after acquiring the business, they implemented a solid business plan, internal processes, and grassroots marketing—securing a small business loan to add a vital second truck.

Why did you start a franchise company?
We wanted to create change on a much larger scale within our industry. After learning so much from improving and growing our own moving business, we built a system to help others start a business without needing a large amount of capital or industry experience, while also taking the next logical step in expanding Great Day Moving.
Why did you change the company name when you started the franchise system?
When we decided to franchise, we needed a name we could take nationwide. We found an east coast company with a similar name to our original brand, Marathon Moving & Delivery, so we knew we had to rebrand. We also wanted a name that better reflected the experience our team provides. One day Roger said, “How about Great Day Moving?”
Who is on our Franchise Team?
Our advisory board includes attorneys, accountants, business consultants, the KSBDC, software developers, IT experts, human resources experts, and franchisors and franchisees from other industries—supported by our own hands-on experience in the moving world.
What is Crownbound University?
Crownbound University (CBU) is the training center for Great Day Moving franchisees, currently located in Kansas City. Franchisees attend CBU to learn how to successfully operate their Great Day Moving franchise before opening and training their own local teams.
